EVENT | when adjutants attack
Hello, Outsiders! Larissa here with our very first event. This is the first part of our metaplot, and we’ll be using it as a stepping stone to bigger and better things as time goes on.
As Aria emphasized in this post, Omega is hardly in the best shape. The paramilitary group Cerberus occupied it for about half a year before Aria was able to wrest control back from them, and in our game’s timeline it’s only been about a month since they were driven out.
But just because they’re gone doesn’t mean they took all their toys with them.
Adjutants are some of the Reapers’ many thralls. Created from the husks of a long-extinct species, Adjutants originated from beyond the Omega-4 relay -- the same relay the PCs have been arriving through. Cerberus augmented them during their time on Omega, only to find that they couldn’t control them.
And while Aria was able to exterminate many of them with the help of Commander Shepard, they’re far from gone.
TIMELINE
This plot will run for 3 OOC days; you are welcome to backtag as long as you’d like. It’ll start this Friday, 2/22, and will run through this Sunday.
ON FRIDAY:
Several adjutants will appear in different parts of Zeta District. While they aren’t too difficult to deal with alone -- and some may be killed by NPCs -- their presence will result in the entire district being quarantined. No one will be able to enter or leave the district during the event.
ON SATURDAY:
Turns out there are more adjutants than we thought. Adjutants can turn any living being into one of their own. They can’t infect the dead, but the injured are fair game - including NPCs. The process is irreversible. And there seem to be dozens of them.
The NPCs have closed up shop in the markets and retreated to their homes. The mercenaries roam the streets looking to take out any and all adjutants, and if you get in the crossfire that’s your problem. Prove you’re not a liability, though, and they’ll take the help.
ON SUNDAY:
A few adjutants remain scattered through the district, but between the mercs and the PCs, most of the remaining ones have been driven back to a limited area of the station, about three blocks in size. They’re originating from a certain warehouse, but unless the adjutants are dealt with, no one’s getting inside.
Where it goes next is entirely dependent on player actions.
QUESTIONS
what can the adjutants do?
They tend to lurk in the shadows to lure out their victims, then hit them with biotic projectiles. The wiki page on them has more information, and you can also see how they fight ingame here (spoiler warning for the Omega DLC if you watch past the part with the adjutant!). If you have any further questions about them we’ll be happy to answer them.
what happens if my character is infected?
Your character will turn into an adjutant, and they will be killed. Death is permanent in this game, so we don’t expect this to be something most people are interested in!
i want to get involved with the mercs!
The Talons are the most likely to accept help, and also the group most familiar with fighting adjutants. The Blood Pack, on the other hand, is as likely to shoot a PC as an adjutant. You’re free to use them as NPCs in your posts; for the most part, you can assume they’ll be out and about the station. If you’re interested in more in-depth plotting with the NPCs, please contact us or comment below. We’re happy to plot with you, but due to mod time constraints we can only play out so much. We can also set up handwaved NPC interaction if you need it.
i want to help take down the warehouse!
Please sign up in the thread below with what you’d like to do. We would like to leave the conclusion open-ended for now, but we’ll contact interested players and offer direction where necessary.
i have another question!
Feel free to ask in the thread below if there’s anything else you’d like to do or that you need more information on.
You're welcome to use the rest of this post as a plotting post! Just post with your characters and what they'll be doing during the event and you're good to go.

Hawke
On Friday, she'll be helping to defend some NPCs. On Saturday, however, she's going to be a bit more cautious with her magic and will make some attempt to at least fight and make sure people are safe in the Zeta District. I'm up for any and all kinds of interactions!!

Morrigan, Maeby, and Kasumi (oh my)
Maeby is a teenager and not drunk enough for this shit. She will be running and hiding. And needing to be saved. Also ducking into random people's rooms to do more hiding.
Kasumi will be in stealth mode, primarily trying to shuffle people who need a little help away from the battle to safety, drag people over to the clinic for treatment, etc. Basically being a techno gofer for whoever needs it.
OPEN TO ANY AND ALL OTHER IDEAS FOR THEM, TOO. I am excite.

Zoe will be spamming her ranged electric attack at any adjutant that she runs into. She'll be with her sister Benji for the most part, but Zoe does have a tendency to go off on her own as well. She's very used to acting as a medic, so if your characters are getting injured I'd be up for CR in that direction!
On an OOC note, most of my activity is going to be through backtags - I'm going on vacation next week and will be slowtagging all around. I'm happy to thread out things as long as they take, but if you want to nail down things first I don't mind a bit.

If anyone feels like having their character facepalm at the inept-looking blond only to see him wipe the floor with a bunch of baddies, he's up for grabs.

She's a close range fighter, but she does have stealth on her side.
ALSO IF YOU WANT YOU CAN TOTALLY CATCH HER IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO BREAK IN AND LOOT A SHOP.

Kengo Utahoshi
Also, he has tech with him that allows him to scan for enemy info/weaknesses and will take full advantage of whatever information he may gain from that. AS A SIDE NOTE, he's almost entirely useless when it comes to fighting. Kengo's body hates him and will act up in the form of crippling pain if he overexerts himself, so he has no choice but to stick to background work.

MASTER CHIEF
His number one priority is gonna be stopping people from being infected by the Adjutants. His second priority is gonna be killing as many as possible, possibly with his bare hands and combat knife because all he has on him at the moment is a pistol (although those are pretty strong again - remember Halo 1? Not that strong, but like, close.) He plays well with others, so if you wanna team up or ask him for help at any point, I'd probably be down for that.

Anyone want to join him in sheer panic, or else otherwise supervise him getting in too much trouble? Bonus points if you are interested in hijacking weapons or vehicles.

Ino Yamanaka
Ino's main form of attack is shintenshin (a mind affecting technique that controls enemies etc etc see application) BUT if the adjutant is attacked while she is controlling it, she ALSO GETS HURT THE SAME WAY. AND WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING her body is useless somewhere and vulnerable for other adjutants to find, isn't that great.
so shintenshin will be a last resort for her
but if that happens, people can...probably find her body laying around doing nothing until she realizes there is nothing she can do BECAUSE THEY ARE BEING CONTROLLED TOO.
she'll mostly be helping people evacuate (only to find they're locked in) and saving innocents when she can. with the adjutants, she will struggle a little especially in groups so anyone willing to help her out (watch over her unconscious body) is much appreciated!
