Hey everybody, Madi here, and it’s game update time! As promised, we’re launching a small setting shift event, so here are all the juicy details!

MAMESHIBA INFESTATION

Part of Zeta District has been infested by mameshiba. For the uninformed, mameshiba are strange little creatures. They aren’t a dog or a bean, but rather a hybrid of both. Mameshiba are creatures of habit and tradition. They like to return to their roots to hide in people’s food and then appear at will to offer inappropriate trivia. No, seriously, they’re all about trivia.

EVENT DETAILS
Somehow, a mysterious crate containing old packages of mameshiba was mixed in with some foodstuffs shipments sent to Zeta District, and now that they’re loose, they’re quickly infesting all of the food in the area. Although they’d lain dormant in the cool, dry environment of the crate, now that they have access to hot food in Zeta District, there’s no telling how quickly they’ll multiply. As Davrax has already discovered, ryncol is lethal to them on contact, but there may be a way to pacify and contain them without killing them -- perhaps a dose of their own medicine, for one! You probably don’t want to eat them, as there’s no telling what would happen...

Now, what ultimately happens with the mameshiba -- contain or destroy -- is up to you and how your characters decide to handle it, but here’s a sneak preview of what’s coming up in the next week. Once Aria gets wind of the infestation, it won’t be long before she institutes a quarantine around the infested area in Zeta District. This quarantine will affect all characters, and is not opt-out -- this is the setting shift we mentioned! Only one area of Zeta District, consisting of several neighborhoods, is inside the quarantine; obviously, this includes The Quad, and much of this area was also severely damaged in the fire that happened a few months ago during the water shortage. However, the area within the quarantine does contain access to all basic necessities, as well as a few entertainment options -- not only bars like The Quad, but there’s a vid theatre that’s still relatively intact and running, as well as an illicit gambling parlor. Amidst the confusion and malcontent caused by the infestation and quarantine, housing will be tight, and there will be fewer housing slots available. This leads us into our housing adjustment!

HOUSING CHANGES
The recent drops left a lot of holes in the housing list, and given the game’s size, we’re consolidating down the housing slots so that more PCs can room together, as housing is mainly to provide CR opportunities. As a result of the quarantine, we’ve reduced the number of available housing slots, and we’ve also simplified the housing system. As of right now, all apartments house 2 to 4 people each, and we encourage everyone not to have their characters live alone. Although you can have your characters room with NPCs if necessary, we highly encourage everybody to work together to find housing arrangements for their characters. Listed in the housing document are all of the characters who are either unhoused or currently living alone; we are asking that players try and place their characters in housing slots, and any characters still unhoused at the end of the week will be placed by mods. Players are free to move their characters to another apartment if there are slots available, but this is just to make sure everyone has a place to live for now.

METAPLOT UPDATE
And now for another couple of announcements! You may have noticed that earlier this week Prowl reported back to the network on the findings of their space field trip. Now that it’s public knowledge that the shuttle explosion was caused by an evangelical batarian group and not the outsiders, hostilities against the outsiders have cooled off somewhat, although there are definitely those who still don’t like their presence on the station.

MOD STATUS
Tai has stepped down as a mod and is leaving the game, although she generously stayed on to help us with the most recent app round and wrap some things up. Lexa, Tomar-re’s player, has joined the mod team as our newest app mod. She has also joined plurk at [plurk.com profile] talianora; if you have questions about apps, you may contact either Lexa or Madi. We are still looking for new mods to help us run the game, especially those are willing to help us with NPCing and plot stuff! If you’re interested in helping us mod, please contact Madi or PM the mod account, [personal profile] ceoqueen.

As always, please feel free to leave any questions or comments you have for us, and there’s also a thread for discussing housing arrangements with other players if need be!
